Summer 2023 Performance Program Shows - Its Show Time!
The Summer flew by for us at the school and we have been so impressed with our students this season. Our show themes this season are Folk Rock, Pink Floyd, Joan Jett vs. Pat Benatar, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers vs. No Doubt. They have tackled some difficult material season and are ready to rock in front of a live audience.
On Saturday October 7th we will be taking our show to a new music venue in Arlington, VA, The filling Station at El Rey. Sunday October 15th break out your lawn chairs and picnic baskets because we will be taking over Franklin Park in downtown Washington, DC. Our shows are free and open to the public so come on out in support of all the students and teachers who have given it their all this season. See you there!
Get ready for Sweater weather...

House Band Happenings
House Band had two awesome gigs in September! On September 23, House Band returned to Let's Play America's annual Play Day in Takoma Park, MD. This event is always a blast and a great way to connect with our local community at a fun and family friendly event in our own backyard. Next House Band ventured out to Boyce VA for a gig with the bands from our Ashburn and Vienna schools at the Virginia State Arboretum on September 30. These shared gigs always create a fun atmosphere of collaboration and mutual support, and this one was no exception! Stay tuned for more info on local Silver Spring gigs during the upcoming Holiday Season!

Warm Welcome to Our New Guitar instructor
Rock 101 and Rock Lab
With the change in the seasons come graduation time for some of our Rock 101ers. Congrats to those who are making the jump into the Performance Program for the Fall. If your young rocker is currently only taking lessons with us, then a Rock 101 or Rock Lab class is a great opportunity for them to take their playing to the next level. Rock 101 and Rock Labs are designed to be safe spaces where your rocker can learn how to play in a band before joining the Performance Program. We have classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays! If you'd like more information about your child's progress or joining their first group, contact Rose on the school line.

NOTES FROM THE MOTHERSHIP
with Music Director Brooks Owens
PREPARATION - With shows coming up this month, how are you making sure you are prepared for performing? You've been working on your parts all season so you know how to play your songs, but using the last lesson or two before the show to run everything and fine tune details can make a huge difference when you step on stage. At dress rehearsal, make sure to show up on time with all the gear you need and have a plan for transitioning on and off stage between songs. On show day, know where in the set your songs are so you can be ready to play and ready to stay on stage if you have two or more songs in a row. Take whatever transition time you have to make adjustments and check tuning but make sure to keep the momentum of the show moving forward. Most importantly, relax, have fun, and get ready to rock!
Welcome to new rockers joining us!
