OUR SPRING 2024 SEASON HAS BEGUN

The Spring 2024 Performance Program season is well under way. We have four awesome themes for our youths that we are excited to be working on: Emo, Motown, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden vs. Judas Priest. We're excited to be working on such a wide variety of music that will challenge our students and take their playing to the next level. As our students have progressed nicely with the first rounds of casting, our Directors have all added songs to their set lists.  The second rehearsal room has been rockin' with the aid of our  Assisant Directors running material and keeping us focused as we head into midseason.

Adult Performance Program Spring 2024

Our Adult Performance Program  Spring Season is well under way! The  Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty has a wonderful cast including some past Performance Program participants as well as some brand new students to the school. Show Director Jaime will be working with the adult students to craft a 90 minute set list full of crowd pleasing hits. The material is proving to be fun and challenging. Stay tuned for their official show poster designed by a member of the cast and more details regarding the end of season performance in June, you're not going to want to miss this! 

If you are an adult who has never played with other musicians and want a safe space to learn how, our Adult Rock 101 class is a great place to start and can serve as a stepping stone to next season's Adult Performance Program. House Band Happenings

Meet and Greet

On March 3rd some very special guests stopped by School of Rock Silver Spring during our House Band rehearsal. Perry Farrell (Front man of Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros & Founder of Lollapalooza) Steven Perkins (Drummer for Jane's Addiction & Porno for Pyros) Peter Distefano (guitarist Porno for Pyros) and Mike Watt (Bassist & Vocalist for Minute Men, Firehose, and often recognized as being among the best of all time) on there Farewell Tour for Porno for Pyros were all playing a few doors down from us at the Fillmore Silver Spring. They were greeted to the sounds of our House Band playing their song "Tahitian Moon" and "Mountain Song" by Janes Addiction. Our guests also gave some great advice on carrying on the tradition of music and being future leaders in the music industry. Really inspiring stuff. Their generosity didn't stop there. Our House Band members were invited to the show that night and were each given a tour t-shirt that you may have seen some sporting around the school.

Our week long Summer Camp experiences are available for purchase online and filling up fast! Our camp are a ton of fun for kids aged 7-17 and are a great introduction to our year round group programs if your student is thinking of joining but wants to dip their toe in before making the plunge. If you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out. 

How many performance seasons have you been in at SOR Silver Spring?

This is my 6th performance program season!!

What made you want to play guitar? 

I wanted to expand to musical abilities beyond the piano to another instrument, specifically guitar so I could play rock music! 

Are you interested in other instruments? 

I’m currently learning bass and would like to try drums!!! 

What are your musical influences, favorite bands or artists? 

The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, The Killers, Depeche Mode

What advice do you have for new students?

Practice makes perfect!!! Be social and have fun!! 

What do you like most about SOR?

Being able to hang with friends and play music!!! 

NOTES FROM THE MOTHERSHIP

CONSISTENCY- Once you've learned your part in a song, what's next? Knowing how to play something and being able to consistently execute it in rehearsal are two very different things. Understanding song form and what notes to play are both crucial to the performance of a song, but they're only the starting point. Professional musicians don't practice until they get something right, they practice until they can't get it wrong! As we enter the second half of this season and casting is finalized, don't settle for just being able to play something in your lesson. Practice with a metronome, listen to and record yourself playing the part, and correct any inconsistencies you hear in your playing. Ask your instructor how to practice consistency this month!
