Our Spring 2023 Performance Program end of season shows were EPIC! On June 11th we rocked a rainbow bedecked stage at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington, DC as tourists and locals visited the city for the Pride Festival and on June 18th we brought it on home to The Fillmore - Silver Spring. All our students hard work was on display. This season was full of challenging material and the casts of Radiohead, Metallica, Pop 'Til You Drop and the Garage shows all stepped up. We couldn't be more proud. Congrats to the students, the teachers and directors. This was one that will not soon be forgotten. We can't wait to see what's in store for the Summer shows!
THE SPRING 2023 ADULT PERFORMANCE SEASON WAVES GOODBYE
The Spring 2023 Adult Performance Program New Wave season Directed by Kevin culminated in a fantastic show at McGinty's Public House on June 25th. The group had the place jumping with super fun 80's hits from Duran Duran, Blondie, The Cars, Modern English, The B-52s and more. The program will be back in the Fall so keep an eye out for Sign Ups in September!
Want to stay sharp or get a jump on next season? A great way to prepare for the Fall 2023 Adult Performance Program is to continue playing. Our Summer 2023 Performance Program Seasoncasts were announced and the first round of song assignments have been given out. This season is a mix of high energy, mellow moments, killer classics and women taking the lead. Show themes are Folk Rock , Pink Floyd, Joan Jett vs. Pat Benatar, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers vs. No Doubt. Each show has had their first rehearsals and we are off to a great start. We are super excited for this season!
House Band at Blues Fest
The 14th Annual Silver Spring Blues Fest was held on June 17 in Downtown Silver Spring, featuring an incredible array of musicians including our House Band! They rocked out and played a very strong set in front of a great crowd enjoying a sunny summer Silver Spring Saturday. Blues Fest is consistently one of our favorite gigs every year and this year was no different. Thanks again to the promoters for having us and to everyone who came out to the show! We can’t wait for next year!

We are thrilled to have Alumni Beck and Maya back at School of Rock this Summer as Summer Camp Directors. As former students, interns and campers themselves, they can draw on their past experiences at School of Rock. They have made the first week of camp an exciting and memorable one for all those involved. Thank you and awesome job so far!

House Band is hitting the road on the Sweet Tea and Sunshine tour! Our Silver Spring House Band (along with the bands from the Vienna and Ashburn schools) will be leaving for a week long trek through the southern US with stops in Atlanta, Memphis, and Nashville. The tour will include bands from Georgia, Tennessee, and even Australia! The first stop of the trip was July 1 at Songbyrd Music House in DC, where our local schools hosted the touring schools for an amazing show in our own backyard. We are excited to be playing venues in these cities and experiencing a little of the music culture in each we are traveling to. Stay tuned for our tour highlights!
Rock 101 Graduations!
Our Rock 101 classes are the stepping stones into our Performance Program. The end of June saw the graduations of several Rock 101 students into the Performance Program. Among those graduations was the entire Tuesday Rock Lab. Congrats to them and those from the other classes that are ready to step on the stage next season!

PLAYING IN THE HEAT- If you’ve ever played an outside show in the summer, you’ll know the heat can do a number on your instruments. Strings detune and break easier, amps overheat, musicians get dehydrated, etc. If you have a gig in a hot environment, come prepared! Bring extra strings, sticks, water, sunscreen, and anything else that will help beat the heat. Stay cool and don’t the let the weather get in the way of you rocking out!
My boys had a wonderful experience at School of Rock Silver Spring! Both Rock 101 and Performance were terrific, and we are so happy that there is going to be a SoR opening in Jacksonville where we are moving!
